In viewing Newseum.org, I came across this front page spread of The Los Angeles Times. The largest photo on the page shows Sen. John McCain on the campaign trail in Hillsborough, N.H. But there isn't a story that accompanies the photo on the front page. Instead, the picture teases the stories involving the upcoming election in the nation section of the paper. Also, the cutline isn't descriptive enough. I'd like to know some statistics on how the candidates are doing in current polls.
Although most news outlets have tried to provide thorough coverage of the candidates running for the 2008 presidency, the decision to use that image instead of an image accompanying any of the other stories seems like bad design judgement.
The feature story entitled, "'Homies' Are Where His Art Is" could of warranted a photo of the barrio figurines the article discusses.
Also, if the paper really wanted to highlight the election coverage on the front page, The Los Angeles Times might have chosen a photo of Mike Huckabee since he was campaigning in L.A.
